The New Labeling Laws For Trans Fats, A Step In The Right Direction. Yum Yum Snacks.com Helps Parents Avoid The Remaining Unhealthy Ingredients.
January 2, 2006 (Delafield, Wisconsin), “It doesn’t have to be made crummy to taste yummy” is the fun slogan behind the Internet’s only retail site dedicated solely to organic and natural snacks for children. www.yumyumsnacks.com was created to help families eat better. Because every product on the site has been taste-tested by children and reviewed for nutritional content by a registered dietitian, it’s never been easier or tastier to eat healthy.
“As parents, we need to look beyond the fancy packaging, and start paying close attention to the nutritional label and ingredient list,” says partner Joelle Lefevre, R.D. “If parents were more aware of the ingredients in their children’s favorite foods, they would be outraged.”
It was both outrage and opportunity to do something about it that led the Yum Yum Sisters to create the Web site. The Yum Yum Sisters, Mindy Dorff and Joelle Lefevre, have always been passionate about the foods they eat. Once these sisters from Wisconsin began raising their own families, they realized how difficult it is to find good, healthy snacks for children and spent over a year developing a site where they would love to shop. Customers who visit www.yumyumsnacks.com can choose from a variety of healthy and fun snacks such as applesauce squeezers, organic honey sticks, fruit snacks made with real fruit, cereals, toaster pastries, cookies, bunny crackers, chocolate syrup, baking goods and more. Many of the products on the site are not available in most grocery or health food stores.
“We really believe in what we’re doing, we have a true passion for teaching parents how to make better food choices for their children,” says partner Mindy Dorff.
According to the Web site, most children’s foods and snacks contain harmful ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup, trans fats/hydrogenated oils, artificial colors/flavorings, preservatives, genetically modified organism and suboptimal levels of pesticides.
For parents who have children with food allergies or intolerances, the products on the Web site are listed by allergies/intolerances to make shopping easier. There is even a vegan list of products.
